Situation in Aceh am 29. Dezember nach Berichten des Umweltnetzwerkes WALHI

Tagelang war Aceh auch telefonisch abgeschnitten. Seit heute Nachmittag ist es wieder möglich, per Telefon Nachrichten direkt aus Aceh zu erhalten. Kontakt zu Deutschen dort besteht nicht – es gibt keine.
WALHI Aceh hat seinen Direktor Mohammad Ibrahim verloren. Wir betrauern seinen Tod.
Nur zu einer der 34 lokalen Gruppen von WALHI Aceh konnte bisher Kontakt aufgenommen werden (YBA, Yayasan Biduk Alam in Ostaceh).
Seit zwei Tagen ist ein indonesisches Team der “Koalition Zivilgesellschaft für die Opfer des Erdbebens und der Tsunami-Flut” (dazu gehören das Umweltnetzwerk WALHI, die Menschenrechtsorganisation KontraS, Acehkita und die Aceh Working Group) auf dem Weg nach Aceh. Auch in Nordsumatra ist viel zerstört – u.a. Straßen und Brücken –, und das Team steht vor einer fast unlösbaren Aufgabe. Während in anderen Staaten, die vom Erdbeben und der Tsunamiwelle erschüttert wurden, internationale und nationale Hilfe eintrifft, sind die Acehnesen völlig auf sich gestellt. Gerade meldete das Team (19.30 Ortszeit, 13.30 MEZ per sms): “Wir sind in Nordsumatra, noch nicht in Aceh. Wir stehen vor einer zerstörten Brücke, die gerade befestigt werden soll. Wir hoffen, heute Nacht in Aceh anzukommen.”

Zur Lage in einzelnen Orten
Die meisten Opfer werden aus den Orten Meulaboh, der Hauptstadt Banda Aceh, aus Idi, Tanah Pasir, Gedong, Kandang, Lhokseumawe, Krung Mane (hier steht kein einziges Haus mehr), Kuta Blang, Bireuen, Pedada, Pante Raja, Kumbang Tanjong, Sigli, Pasi Rawa (völlig zerstört) berichtet. Küstenorte sind oftmals völlig zerstört. Überall auf den Straßen von Banda Aceh liegen Leichen. Die Bevölkerung benötigt dringend Decken, Zelte, Leichensäcke, Lebensmittel, Material zum Kochen, Säuglingsnahrung und –milch.
Meulaboh an der Westküste:
Meulaboh ist schwer getroffen. 80% der Stadt und der Umgebung sind zerstört. Von den 45.000 Einwohnern der Stadt sollen nach letzten Meldungen nur noch etwa 9.000 leben. Hilfsteams sind noch nicht angekommen. Nach Berichten aus der Stadt sollen überall Leichen liegen und noch nicht begraben sein.

Lhokseumawe, die Industriestadt an der Ostküste (Gasförderung durch ExxonMobil), soll nicht so schwer getroffen sein wie die Hauptstadt Banda Aceh oder die Westküste. Die Tsunamiwelle drang in die Stadt ein. In Panik liefen Tausende von Menschen in höher gelegene Gebiete, in Moscheen und in öffentliche Gebäude.146 Tote sind bisher zu beklagen. Gestern stand das Wasser in einigen Stadtteilen noch 5 Meter hoch.Von der Insel Nias werden am 29. Dezember um 16.00 Ortszeit (10.00 MEZ) 84 Tote und 180 Vermisste gemeldet. Viele Häuser, Kirchen, Schulen, Verwaltungsgebäude, Moscheen und Straßen sind zerstört.

Nach neuen Informationen über die Lage auf der Insel Simeulue ist die Situation auch dort anscheinend katastrophal. In der Jakarta Post wird der Oberkommandierende der Marine, Admiral Bernard Kent Sondakh, wie folgt zitiert: „Wir haben auch mehr humanitäre Hilfe für die Opfer auf der Insel Simeulue vorbereitet, welche durch die Flutwelle überschwemmt wurde, die mindestens 7.000 Menschen tötete.“ Weitere Informationen liegen uns nicht vor.

Statement by Civil Society Coalition for the Victims of the Earthquake and Tsunami

Tectonic earthquake followed by tsunami that swept through Aceh and North Sumatera is the greatest disaster hit Indonesia for the last decade. Recently, Aceh is still in paralyzed condition. The electricity and telephones break down caused difficulty to access information to the impacted areas. According to the latest information, the death toll is 4,712 and that will likely increase, since the following quake predicted happens in the recent period, moreover the threat of diseases after the disaster. This catastrophe is a National disaster, which involved millions people’s life suffered due to lack of facilities to survive.
With regard to the National Calamity and on behalf of humanism, we, the Civil Society Coalition for the Victims of Earthquake and Tsunami or Koalisi Masyarakat Sipil untuk Korban Gempa dan Tsunami, want to express our deepest condolences and sympathy for the victims of the calamity. As our solidarity and support for them, we, the Civil Society Coalition for the victims of The Earthquake and tsunami in Aceh and North Sumatera, hold a consolidation to intervene direct and immediate aid, in short and long term period, in the form of:
1. Conducting direct field surveys to assess the exact condition and needs; to open crisis center that can be accessed by many organizations and institutions and persons who want to give donation such as: kafan material – material used to cover dead body – funds, medicines, clothes and other stuff needed; to guarantee the aid’s effectiveness and coordinattion, and that the aid truly delivered for those who needs.
